Scope and Content Denny Iron Works, Glasgow Road, Denny, Falkirk This shows a group of the wheeled ladles used for moving molten iron round the moulding shops. On the right are two-wheeled barrows of a type at least as old as the 1860s, and on the left are two more modern four-wheeled barrows. This firm was primarily a maker of agricultural machinery, especially ploughs and Cambridge rollers, and also made iron and steel castings as engineering components, for, among others, J & T Boyd, textile machinery makers, Glasgow. The iron founding industry was a speciality of the south-east corner of Stirlingshire, with the towns of Larbert, Denny, Falkirk and Bonnybridge all having several firms engaged in this business. The Denny Iron Works was founded in 1870, and belonged to Cruikshank & Co Ltd. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
