Scope and Content Denny Iron Works, Glasgow Road, Denny, Falkirk This shows the heavy foundry with some large moulds in course of preparation. Because of the weight of the mould parts, and of the finished castings, this bay is served by an electrically-operated overhead crane. In this foundry the crane drivers are women. This firm was primarily a maker of agricultural machinery, especially ploughs and Cambridge rollers, and also made iron and steel castings as engineering components, for, among others, J & T Boyd, textile machinery makers, Glasgow. The iron founding industry was a speciality of the south-east corner of Stirlingshire, with the towns of Larbert, Denny, Falkirk and Bonnybridge all having several firms engaged in this business. The Denny Iron Works was founded in 1870, and belonged to Cruikshank & Co Ltd. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
