This was a partnership project with Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) run as part of the government tourism initiative called Homecoming Scotland 2009. The project aimed to enhance knowledge and inspire exploration of heritage sites on the national forest estate. Sixty FCS sites were highlighted, which connected topics selected from the Homecoming strands. The topics were Townships, World War II defences, Industry and Woodland Use. The project achieved its aims through a multimedia website (www.forestheritagescotland.com) and a nationwide programme of heritage themed events run by FCS staff. In addition various other small projects were undertaken, including archaeological surveys of sites and creating heritage resources, such as prop boxes, for FCS rangers to use in outreach work.
