Former Condition of Wreck

I dived on this wreck many times during the 1970's. It was in better condition then with the wings and tail nearly complete although the nose was missing. (There were rumors that couple of divers had found the cockpit nearby but deeper but this was never verified)
It was possible to enter the wreck through the front of the fuselage (broken just forward of the wings) and to swim through the wreck exiting through one of the two observation cupola spaces at the rear. A lot of divers would not attempt this as the wreck was home to some rather large conger eels.
The wings had lost their control surfaces and the floats that folded into the wing ends.
The engines and the ailerons were lying on the sea bed as if they had just fallen off the wings.
The tail fin was intact but the rudder and elevator surfaces were missing.
I think that the fuselage lay north to south across the slope of the sea bed with the starboard wing tip buried in the sand and the port wing high above the sea bed.
This was always one of my favorite dives and it was, without a doubt, a Catalina.
