Scarista House, John Loban of Stornoway, 1827 Former manse, quite the grandest house of its genre on the island, presiding over the flowerstrewn Scarista machair with some presence. Old fashioned looking for its date, it has a lit nepus gable and lower flanking wings similar to its counterpart on Barra (also attributed to Loban); good internal joinery includes original architraves, shutters and chimneypieces with fluted pilasters. Rear extension, 1867.
