Plan to round off the garden to expose the West side of the Institution and make a better approach to the Mound, Princes Street. John Cook has examined George Smith's (Architect 1793-1877) plans and approved of them. Subscriptions are sought from Princes Street residents who will benefit from the improvement. The drawing shows the Mound soon after it was constructed with the collection of structures that occupied the site until 1850; these included a menagerie, rotunda and workshop.
