Archaeology Notes

NO01SW 50.01 0074 1396

A mill pond, formed by damming the Keltie Burn, is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1866, sheet cix). This mill pond, either superseded, or was supplemented by a lade drawing water from (or draining) Keltie Loch. At the time of the 1st edition map the loch is depicted as marshy ground and the lade as a substantial ditched feature. A lade supplies water from the mill pond to a watermill at Millhaugh farmsteading (NO01SW 50.00). The mill pond is not shown on the current editon of the OS 1:10000 map (1977) although both lades are depicted and annotated 'drain'.
