An archaeological survey was undertaken in September 1996 as a part of an Environmental Assessment associated with a proposal for opencast coal mining on land around Lochlea. The following site was identified during the survey:

NS 451 306 Lochlee coal mine.

A report has been produced; a copy will be deposited with the NMRS.
