Archaeology Notes

NT05NW 55 0324 5500

Upper Lawhead farmsteading is described in the Name Book (ONB 1858-61) as, a "farmsteading of one storey thatched, in good repair". It is depicted as a roofed L-shaped building on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1864, sheet xxi). On the OS 2nd edition map (Lanarkshire 1896, sheet xvi NW), the building is still roofed, and slightly extended. Aerial photographs show that the farmstead is now in ruins, with only the foundations visible.
