Standing Building Recording (3 May 2022)

NT 24917 74565 A historic building survey was undertaken of Nos 3–5 Circus Lane, on 3 May 2022, prior to the demolition of an existing single-storey garage structure and the proposed erection of a two- storey extension to the existing mews property to form a three bedroom single dwelling.

The exterior of the building reflects the design of the rest of the mews buildings along Circus Lane and is in keeping with their style. Internally, few original features remain with only the fireplace and chimneybreast to the first floor and the windows being original. There is also a fireplace with a raised hearth in the E wall of a ground floor room that is likely original. Given this style of fireplace, it is possible this is related to the building’s historic use as a smithy.
