Archaeology Notes

NJ20NE 116 2522 0868

The grass-grown footings of two adjoining buildings, probably a cottage and a byre or barn, are situated on a terrace in rough pasture about 220m W of Corgarff Castle (NJ20NE 1). The cottage measures 11m from N to S by 4.8m transversely overall and has a possible entrance on the E. The byre or barn is set at right angles to the NE corner of the cottage, and measures 15.1m from E to W by 4.2m transversely overall; it contains two compartments, each with an entrance on the S, and its NE corner is crossed by a modern fence-line.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 22 May 1997.
