ARCHITECT: Sir H.A. Wheeler, 1974

Sir H.A. Wheeler designed this home for himself

Photographic evidence would suggest that this is in fact a conversion of the existing listed building rather than a wholly new construction on the site of that listed building. IGL W399/28 (noted below) is probably an alterantive restoration / new build to Sir H.A. Wheelers eventual conversion of the derelict listed building site.

NT27SW 1342.01 NT 24120 73873 3 Hawthornbank Lane

Map evidence suggests that Hawthornbank House was built on the site of the building represented in collection item IGL W399/28 and named 3 Hawthornbank Lane (AC 18 June 2002).

Activities

Project (1997)

The Public Monuments and Sculpture Association (http://www.pmsa.org.uk/) set up a National Recording Project in 1997 with the aim of making a survey of public monuments and sculpture in Britain ranging from medieval monuments to the most contemporary works. Information from the Edinburgh project was added to the RCAHMS database in October 2010 and again in 2012.

The PMSA (Public Monuments and Sculpture Association) Edinburgh Sculpture Project has been supported by Eastern Photocolour, Edinburgh College of Art, the Edinburgh World Heritage Trust, Historic Scotland, the Hope Scott Trust, The Old Edinburgh Club, the Pilgrim Trust, the RCAHMS, and the Scottish Archive Network.
