Project Buildings at Risk Register BARR

Notes Georgian mansion in fine-tooled ashlar with polished ashlar dressings and a harled rear. The house rises to 3 storeys and extends to 7 bays. It has now lost its piended platform roof and segmental headed dormers. Built in 1787 by James MacLeran, the house incorporates fragments of the earlier New Tarbat House, built in c.1690 by Sir George Mackenzie, Viscount Tarbat. The centre 3 bays are slightly advanced and pedimented, and feature a corniced and pilastered doorpiece. The first floor windows are corniced and linked by a moulded cill band. Smaller square windows sit above in moulded architraves. The east and west elevations extend to 3 bays and are similarly fenestrated. The rear elevation features slightly advanced outer bays, with a tripartite and Venetian window to the centre lighting the stair well.
