(HP 6310 1663) Cairns (NR)

OS 6" map, Shetland, 2nd ed., (1900).

A group of five large but now dilapidated cairns composed of stones of considerable size.

They stand in a line running NNW-SSE and are separated by intervals of between 20 and 30 yards. None of them presents any feature calling for particular remark.

The most northerly is practically demolished, which the one immediately south of it, about 26' in diameter has been much destroyed in the centre. The third, which lies to the SE, has a diameter of 30'. The fourth, which is to the south of it and is approximately 36' in diameter, was probably once chambered, but any evidence of this has been obscured by the erection ofa modern landmark. The fifth, which lies further to the SE, is 25' in diameter.

RCAHMS 1946, visited 1930.

No trace. The cairns have been destroyed by service installations. No record of any finds.

Visited by OS(AA), 28 March 1969.
