(Name: HW 6195 3062) Tigh Mhaoldonuich (NAT)

(Detail not obvious).

OS 6" map, 1965.

A small stone house or hut near the centre of the Island of Sula Sgeir. It is about 4' long, 3' wide and 3' high, and is said to have been the residence of a man named Mhaoldonuich (Ludovick) who was transported from Rona for sheep-stealing, and was found dead after an interval of five or six weeks. Tradition says this happened 'about two hundred years ago' (i.e. c1650, taken literally).

Name Book 1850.

'Tigh Mhaoldonuich' means 'The house of the bald saint' or 'tonsured one'.

J W Dougal 1937.
