Archaeology Notes

NJ42SE 77 4539 2078

Nothing is visible of this farmsteading, its site lying at the edge of what is now a cultivated field about 600m W of Newmill farmsteading (NJ42SE 23). As depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1870, sheet li), it comprised five buildings lying immediately W of a garden and on the S side of a farm track. Four of the buildings were disposed around a yard with an entrance at its NW corner, and the western of these had a horse-engine attached to its W side. The fifth building, stood immediately NW of the others. The steading appears to have been removed before the end of the 19th century and it is not shown on the 2nd edition of the map (1902, sheet li.NE).

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 26 November 2002.
