Archaeology Notes

NJ03SE 4 0593 3337

Traces of a tower known locally as "Castle Cumming" exist behind the farm of Auchnahannet.

Information from G A Dixon, 13 Thirlstane Rd., Edinburgh.

Not trace or local knowledge of a castle at Auchnahannet. Behind the farmhouse at NJ 0593 3337, are the footings of a substantial depopulated steading which may be what Dixon refers to. It measures about 13.0m E-W within walls 1.1m thick. The width is uncertain as the N wall has been completely removed.

Visited by OS (A A), 2 March 1971.
