Publication Account (1974)

Bishop Garden Cotton Mill, Bishop's Court. Built 1826 for James Johnston, power loom cloth manufacturer. A four storey and attic, 23 bay rubble building, with cast iron window frames. There were cast iron columns on the ground floor, apparently a later addition, and wooden pillars above, with timber joists and flooring throughout. At the rear was a small single storey engine house, with a circular section brick chimney. Demolished 1966.
