Police Training Centre, 71 Oxford Street, 1892, A B McDonald
Built as a Police Office, with court, cells and barracks. Classical palazzo façades to Oxford & Nicholson Streets. Sculpted frieze, a large armorial wallhead panel above. Above the main door is a small head of Justice, blindfolded.

Originally a variety theatre of 1903-5. Converted to a cinema in 1925, now a bingo hall.

A serious fire broke out in the empty former Coliseum Theatre on the evening of Sunday 24th May 2009. This caused almost the complete loss of the roof and interior, with the distinctive cupola and octagonal red-tile turret roof also having collapsed during the blaze. Access to the site for further recording is restricted due to the safety of the structure and the site being treated as a crime scene.

Notes A serious fire broke out in the empty former Coliseum Theatre on the evening of Sunday 24th May. This caused the almost complete loss of the roof and interior, with the distinctive cupola and octagonal red-tile turret roof also having collapsed during the blaze. Access to the site for further recording is restricted due to the safety of the structure and the site being treated as a crime scene. Gradual demolition of the building shell is likely in the coming weeks. (01 June 2009)
