Archaeology Notes

NN63NW 79 64299 38375.

This farmstead lies immediately N of a modern sheepfold in enclosed pasture on the W bank of a tributary of the Allt an Tuim Bhric. The remains comprise a single rectangular building and a small enclosure. The building is set into rising ground at the back of a grassy terrace. It measures 14m from NE to SW by 4m transversely within rubble walls much reduced by robbing, though in places standing up to 0.7m in height. Outshots extend 6.1m to the NE and 5.7m to the SW, forming a range that measures about 29m in overall length. Both the original building and the SW outshot have an entrance on the SE. The enclosure stands immediately to the E. Roughly square on plan, it measures 21m by 21m within an earthen bank.

No buildings are depicted here either on John Farquharson's 1769 Survey of the North Side of Loch Tay (National Archives of Scotland, RHP 973/1, Plan 8), at which time this area was described as grassland and outfield, or on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1867, sheet lxix).
