Traditionally said to have been built by one of the Stewarts, Earls of Buchan, but Todd (NSA 1845) could not discover by which. The ruins have been levelled and the swamp on which it stood has now been cultivated.
New Statistical Account (NSA) 1845.
No remains or traces of any part of the building or ditches now remain, but the name is still preserved.
Name Book 1867.
