Housedale, 18th century. Mansion layout survives, front wall of centre of house represented by moulded doorpiece and

fine, 1795, cartouche over - formerly five windows. Short quadrant links to north (gardener's house) and south (reconstructed, with Venetian window in east gable) wings. Fine two-storey outbuilding, dated 1723 I.F.M.F., harled with chamfered margins and skewputs, outside stair.

Previous to 1818 Housedale (erected 1705) was the Mansion House of the Echt Barony. It was reduced in size to allow room for the gardens, the wings only remaining.

Name Book 1866.

Housedale (name confirmed) is a private dwelling, still intact and in use as a residence.

Visited by OS field Surveyor 27 September 1966.
