Archaeology Notes

NJ71NE 24 c. 79 16.

An axe of grey flint from Kintore (NJ 79 16), measuring 6 1/4 by 2ins (159 by 51mm), was purchased from the collection of John Rae, Aberdeen, in 1892. A cast of this axe had previously been donated to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) by John Sturrock in 1881 (Accession no: AF 131) and a presumably identical cast was sold with his collection in 1889. The axe was found in 1881.

NMAS 1892; Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1893; J Sturrock 1889.

There is no change to the existing record.

Information from RCAHMS (JRS), 25 October 1996.
