Summary Record

Elgin Town Hall was recorded by RCAHMS Threatened Buildings Survey in August 2013 prior to proposed comprehensive remodelling and upgrading.

This restrained modernist pavilion retained much of its original interior with the foyer and the main hall with its open galleries being of particular note.

The Town Hall was designed by William Kininmonth of Rowand Anderson, Kininmonth & Paul 1957-61. It was extended by Kininmoth & Paul in 1975. The earlier town hall by Marshall Mackenzie of 1885 on Moray Street burnt down in 1939. It was demolished and it is now the site of the police station.
