Gordon, writing in 1661, notes and shows on the accompanying map, two market crosses in Castlegate (Castle Street). One, the high cross or flesh cross, is noted on NJ90NW 32. The other, the fish cross, where a daily fish market was held, is shown on his map in approximately the same position as that occupied by the present market cross (NJ90NW 23).
