Accessing Scotland's Past Project

A photograph taken in the 1970s shows the former library at No 18 The Green. The building now forms a private residence.

Standing two storeys high, the former library was built in the late eighteenth century and subsequently modified in the mid-nineteenth century. Its most unusual feature is the imposing doorpiece. In many other aspects, however, it is similar to the other houses and cottages on The Green, being built from coursed rubble masonry, with a slated roof, and brick chimney-stacks.
