(No classification specified: cargo cited as meal, and date of loss as 25 November 1865). Shamrock: this vessel foundered off Rabbit Island. Capt. Gow. Registration: Wick. 51nrt.

(Location of loss cited as N58 32.33 W4 23.0).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Talmine Bay is not noted on the 1999 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map but the name presumably applies to the well-defined indentation to the NW of Talmine Island and in front of Talmine village. The area is situated on the W side of Tongue Bay and to the N of the Kyle of Tongue.

Whittaker locates the loss 'off Rabbit Island' [Rabbit Islands: centred NC 605 635]. This remains unconfirmed.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 2 September 2002.
