(Name: NM 7790 0435) Site of Conflict between the Scots and Danes (NAT) OS 6" map, Argyllshire, 2nd ed., (1900)

There are two cairns situated close together on 25' raised beach; the S one is 38' in diameter and the other is 35' in diameter. Both have central hollows which suggest plundering. They are said to mark the site of a battle between the Danes and the Scots, which took place here at some unknown date.

NM 7775 0445. Two very similar bare mounds of stone each 12.0m in diameter, the northernmost is 1.4m high, the other 1.6m high. Both mounds are mutilated and there are traces of old field walls in the immediate vicinity.

There are two cairns at the end of a ridge 750m NNW of Barrackan overlooking the S end of the bay known as Bagh Dail nan Ceann (Campbell and Sandeman 1964). The NE cairn is 11.5m in diameter and 1.4m high; although it has been robbed, it is likely that any burials remain undisturbed. The other cairn, which is situated 2m to the SW is up to 12m in diameter and 1.8m high, with waht may be several large kerbstones on the perimeter; a lambing-pen has been built within the cairn material in the NE quadrant.

Field System: A cleared strip of ground immediately adjacent to the two round cairns is enclosed by parallel dykes c.15m apart. This strip is subdivided by at least four cross dykes into regular rectangular plots. The strip is some 110m long and is encroached upon by rig and furrow.
