This small tower-house, now very ruinous, was built towards the end of the 16th century. Markedly domestic in character, it was a residence of the Stewarts of Appin, though its history is not well documented.
The original structure comprises a rectangular block measuring 11.6 metres NE-SW, by 7.4 metres over walls 1.1 metres thick. The vaulted ground floor remains intact and the SW and SE walls stand to second floor level. An entrance doorway near the NE end of the SE wall is enclosed by an outer stair tower, added during the 17th century.
About 10 metres SE of the castle are the turf-covered foundations of a substantial building which measured 20 metres NE-SW 7.3 metres over walls 1.2 metres thick which stand to a height of about 1.1 metres at the NE end. The exact nature of this structure is not known, but may have comprised a house and byre, probably built in the 18th or early 19th century after the castle had ceased to be occupied.
