Archaeology Notes

NJ06SE 66 centred 0689 6303

Vertical air photography (BKS NJ06S 2633267, flown 9 July 1976) has recorded cropmarks on flat ground at an altitude of 5m OD and within the area of Kinloss airfield (NJ06SE 29.00). Three ring-ditches are apparent to the S of the main runway; one of these is slightly more prominent than the others and may represent a searchlight station [sic.) of the last war.

NMRS, MS/712/109.

A number of previously unrecorded cropmark sites were noted on vertical aerial photographs while preparing a management plan for RAF Kinloss.

NJ 068 630 At least three cropmark ring-ditches S of main runway. One slightly more prominent than the others may represent WW2 searchlight station.
