Archaeology Notes

NN52SW 7 5458 2087.

About 400 yards directly east of the farmhouse of Wester Auchleskine, Balquhidder, the author found a group of three large, water-worn boulders of mica-schist. The largest is c.15 feet long, 7 feet broad and 5 feet above ground. On its top are seven cup-marks, 1 1/2 -5 inches in diameter and 2 inches deep. There may have been more cup-marks as the top of the stone is broken and there are several faint hollows.

J M Gow 1887.

This stone, as described by Gow, is at NN 5458 2087. The marks are very weathered but seem to be artificial, particularly the larger cups. Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (W D J) 29 November 1968.

No change to previous field report.

Visited by OS (B S) 20 March 1979.1968.
