NLO: Scalloway [name: HU 404 394]

East Voe of Scalloway [name centred HU 405 390].

Damaged. 7 November 1850, ELECTRA, of Lerwick, Davis Straits to Scalloway, wind SW, force 10, place Scalloway. Drove from 4 anchors and went ashore on rocky bottom, received very considerable damage and fills with the tide. Shipping and Mercantile Gazette 15 November 1850.

Source: Admiralty Register of Wrecks and Casualties Strandeds of UK 1850 and 1851.

NMRS, MS/829/67 (no. 282).

This incident is not cited as a loss by I G Whittaker (1998); the vessel may have been returned to service. The cited arrival of this vessel from the Davis Straits suggests that this was a whaler or otherwise engaged in the whaling industry.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 29 July 2003.
