1-15 Princes Gardens, 1891, Lindsay & Benzie, speculative builders

Terraced houses, with basements at end units, built as a crescent rising into the hill to reduce excavation costs and to increase the number of houses. Here the builders were reading the market better than the estate owner, who had instructed Thomson to design the much larger terrace across the ridge. The builders' design was later developed by David Barclay for John Lindsay, after National Building Regulations were introduced in 1892.
