Crown Circus (Nos 3-10), 1-2 Crown Terrace and 15-17 Crown Road North, 1857, James Thomson
Grand classical painted ashlar terraced houses. Sited at the top of a steep rise from Byres Road, the building commanded a view of Gilmorehill for years. Eight convex houses with Roman Doric columns at ground floor on Nos 3-5 and 8-10; the two central houses, Nos 6 and 7, have pilasters, all supporting a Doric detailed balcony at first floor. A U-plan terrace, the two pairs of end houses face adjoining streets; details at Crown Road North as main front, whilst at Crown Terrace round-headed dormers break ashlar roof balustrade. Gardens retaining wall reinstated 2002, Glasgow West Conservation Trust, when overgrown forest trees were also replaced by smaller species.
