'The site of an ancient house or stronghold which was situated on a knoll surrounded by a mote or ditch. The remains of the building were removed and the ditch filled up about twenty years ago (c.1840)...John the Bangster...is said to have been a robber..'

Name Book 1860

The site of John the Bangster's House is on a slight rise in the centre of a hollow in an arable field now under crop. Although the farmer (Fintalich Farm) drained the area this year, nothing significant was found.

Field Visit (29 September 1996)

No trace of the possible moated site, which is depicted as a pecked rectangle on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1866, sheet cvii), was visible in the arable field at the date of survey.
