Archaeology Notes

NO01NE 2 c. 09 18

A medieval coin hoard was discovered on May 15th 1876 while excavating for cottages at Freeland (now Strathallan School). Most of the coins were taken away and sold by the workmen, the few which reached the Exchequer as treasure trove were of Edward 3, and Henry 4, 5 and 6 of England and David 2 and James 1 and 2 of Scotland; these, with the jar in which they were found, are in The National Museum of Antiquities.

G Sim 1876; Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1878.
