NLO: Largo Bay [name centred NO 42 01]

Leven [name: NO 385 005].

Possibly on map sheet NT39NE.

Glasgow, 6th Dec., for several days pieces of wreck, planks, battens, etc., have been washed ashore on the banks of the Firth of Forth. At Dysart, and at Wemyss, portions of wreckage have been landed, having a burnt appearance, and fears are entertained that a vessel has been burnt at sea. At Leven, some days ago, an abandoned fishing boat was picked up.

Source: Shipping Intelligence, LL, No. 19,228, London, Wednesday December [6 1875].

NMRS, MS/829/70 (no. 4347).

The location assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary, being derived from one of the reported locations of discovery of wreckage. The vessel may have foundered offshore, possibly beyond the quasi-administrative area that is designated as Maritime - Fife. The date cited is also that of the reported discovery of wreckage.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998).

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 27 September 2004.
