NLO: Kildonan [name centred: NS 028 211].

Ardrossan, Dec. 20, ELIZABETH ANN jigger, of Belfast, Lowrie, from Cienfuegos for Port Dundas, with ground rock salt, went ashore yesterday a little to the North of Kildonan Point, Arran: crew saved. The coastguard have now charge of the vessel, which has shifted about a mile further South than where she first stranded. A kedge has been run out to haul her off.

Source: Shipping Intelligence, LL, No. 20,486, London, Tuesday December 23 [1879].

NMRS, MS/829/70 (no. 4894).

Kildonan Point is not noted on the 2001 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map. The name probably applies to one of the projecting rocks depicted to the E of the village.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably on account of her successful recovery.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 1 November 2004.
