Archaeology Notes

NO02SE 32 c. 050 236.

A stone axe from Tibbermuir (Tibbermore: NO 050 236) was an exhibit in the Scottish Exhibition of National History, Art and Industry, held in Glasgow in 1911; it was on loan from the Hunterian Museum, Glasgow.

Palace of History 1911.

Also from Tibbermuir come a stone axe, measuring 7 by 3 ins, and a perforated stone hammer, 6 1/2 ins long. Both are in the Smith Institute, Stirling (Accession nos 2007 and 1887 respectively).

Stirling Museum A1887 has been identified as a type I axe-hammer and petrologically attributed to group XXVIIIc (coarse quartz dolerite with plagioclase laths, from various sources in Scotland and northern England).
