NLO: Campbeltown [name: NR 720 204]

Campbeltown Loch [name centred NR 745 205].

Glasgow, March 4, a telegram from Campbeltown states that a most violent SE gale raged yesterday. Several small fishing vessels were driven form their moorings and sunk, some of them being dashed against the mussel embankment, over which the waves were making clean breaches all day. Some of the vessels moored at the quay were more or less damaged by contact with the quay. Snow and sleet fell heavily. [Record received incomplete].

NMRS, MS/829/70 (no. 5100).

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Campbeltown Harbour (NR72SW 43.00) is centred at NR 72215 20399.

The loss of these vessels is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998).

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 23 December 2004.
