Archaeology Notes

ND49SE 55 c. 473 944

A searchlight emplacement has been recorded by the Defence of Britain Project (Report form, Mr Esson, 1996), 'across road from Castle Grimness.

Examination of a RAF vertical air photograph of the area (106G/Scot/UK 137, 3008, flown 3 July 1946) shows no evidence of any military activity, but a large flooded area across the road from Castle may mask any earthworks from the World War II period.

Information from RCAHMS (DE), February 2005.
