Archaeology Notes

NJ90NE 8229 c. 963 060

N57 8.7 W2 3.8

Location formerly entered as NJ c. 96 05 [N57 8 W2 4].

NLO: Aberdeen [name: NJ 95 05].

Formerly also entered as NJ90NE 8051 (unlocated).

See also NJ90NE 8228.

(Classified as galliot, with cargo of fish and oil: date of loss cited as 29 January 1815). Charsten & Peter: this vessel stranded at North Pier, Aberdeen. Capt. Larsen.

Registration: Danish.

(Location of loss cited as N57 8.75 W2 4.00).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The location assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary. Aberdeen Harbour (NJ90NE 7.00) is centred at NJ 95 05. The North Pier (NJ90NE 7.02) extends from NJ 9590 0570 to NJ 9639 0609. The present entrance may be considered to lie at NJ c. 963 060, but this location reflects development towards the East through the construction of successive piers and breakwaters.

It remain unclear whether this loss should be equated with that named Charsten and Peter Larsen, and entered as NJ90NE 8228.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 21 January 2002.
