Stonehaven Bay [name centred NO 880 862].

Formerly entered at cited location NO c. 87 85 [N56 57 W2 13], and as also as Unlocated.

The sloop MARTHA, Sharp, from Sunderland to Findhorn, with lime, was driven on shore near Stonehaven 7th inst., on fire, & totally wrecked. Crew saved.

(Classified as sloop, with cargo of lime: date of loss cited as 7 October 1822). Martha's: [this vessel was] wrecked at the back of Stonehaven quay after [her] cargo ignited. Capt. Sharp.

Registrations: Limekilns. Built 1818. 61 tons burthern. Length: 16m. Beam: 5m.

(Location entered as NO c. 877 854 [N56 57.6 W2 12.2]). The location assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary. That of Stonehaven Quay remains unclear, but it was probably situated within the area of the present harbour (NO88NE 56.00), which is centred at NO 87764 85415.

The location of the loss of this vessel remains unclear. That cited by Whittaker is preferred over that cited in the primary account.

The form of the name of this vessel that is cited by Whittaker differs from that cited in the primary account. The latter is preferred.

The remains of the vessel were presumably removed without delay from this constrained location.
