1 Royal Terrace, c.1865

Pretty single-storey stone cottage, with bay windows and bargeboarded dormer windows, fine bracketed porch. Adjacent Nos 3 & 4 are grander villas with simple fanlights. To No 5 possibly Matthew Steele added a three-storey Arts & Crafts bookend. Pavilion roof with ball finial, solid harled columns on either side, virtually glazed between with beetle-browed overhanging eaves. But for the tile-hanging, and the traditional window-fenestration, the concept is worthy of Mackintosh. Real quality if restored to brilliant white harl.
