Archaeology Notes

NO43NW 51.02 centred 40744 36805

The three aircraft hangars and the many buildings and huts forming the techincal area for the airfield are visible on vertical air photographs ( CPE/Scot/UK 267, 3003- 3005, flown 14 August 1947). The aircraft hangars have since been removed, but several of the buildings survive within other more modern strctures.

Note (19 March 2021)

The Pillbox Study Group reported that a blast shelter and five air raid shelters are depicted on the OS 1:2500 map (1965)within and E of the technical area.

The blast shelter is recorded at NO 4062 3682

The five air raid shelters possibly Stanton type shelters, are located at

NO 4110 3710, NO 4109 3687, NO 4109 3695, NO 4107 3690 and NO 4108 3704.
