NLO: Irvine [name: NS 325 395]
Irvine Bay [name: NS 295 378].

Irvine, 15th Apl. The NYMPH, of Belfast, McGerrie, from Whitehaven to this port, in ballast, ran on the Jetty at the entrance to the South side of the bar yesterday, and is now a total wreck.
Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 13,740, London, Saturday April 17 1858.
NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 9498).

(No classification specified; cargo cited as ballast, and date of loss as 14 April 1858). Nymph: this vessel ran on a jetty at the entrance to the S side of Irvine Bar. See loss W side Arran?
(Location of loss cited as N55 36.25 W4 42.00).
I G Whittaker 1998.

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Irvine Bar is not noted as such on the 1998 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map, but the River Garnock enters Irvine Bay at NS 303 380 and the bar may be envisaged as a Southeastwards extension of Ardeer Spit. The extensive area of Irvine Harbour (NS33NW 40.00) is centred at NS 30668 38222.
It remains unclear whether or not this vessel was successfully refloated.
Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 30 October 2006.
