NLO: Ayr [name: NS 335 223].

Ayr, 3rd Oct. There was a very heavy gale here from WNW to NNW this morning. The LOUIS A. SURETTE, from Belfast, and the ELIZA, Gardner, both of Belfast, ran ashore outside the North Pier, after passing the breakwater: the former was got off with loss of jibboom and other trifling damage: the ELIZA remains scuttled, but is expected to be got off with no great damage when the weather moderates: crew landed. [Record received incomplete].

NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 9869).

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably on account of her successful recovery.

Ayr harbour (NS32SW 123.00) is centred at NS 32930 22754.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 23 November 2006.
