NLO: Thurso [name: ND 115 687]
Thurso Bay [name centred ND 115 699]
Pentland Firth [name centred ND 35 81].
Thurso, 23rd July. The GULDSTAV (Dan. schr.), Christensen, from Korsoer, when making the river, stranded on a rock, and remained one tide: the vessel has made water and the cargo is damaged.
Source: LL, No. 15,380, London, Monday, July 27 1863.
NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 10410).
A location at ND c. 122 688 may be suggested for this stranding. The River Thurso (Thurso River) enters the SE corner of Thurso Bay through a well-defined mouth.
The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably accepting her successful recovery.
Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 5 January 2007.
