Wilsontown House was situated about 83.5m S of the present day picnic area and S of the site of the ironworks (NS95SE 11.00). The house was rectangular in plan with a c.40m long wing on the E side. An additional structure, possibly the stables stood at NS 94965 54811. The house was demolished in the 1950's and little trace of the building or foundations survives on the ground at this location.
The house is shown on the Map of Wilsontown Estate of 1825 (National Map Library, EMS.P166) and depicted and annotated 'Wilsontown House' on the 1st edition of the OS 25-inch map (Lanarkshire, 1864, sheet xx.2) as well as the 2nd edition and all the subsequent revision editions. The plan of the buildings shows only minor alterations over the map publication dates.
The house, E wing and 'stables' are visible on vertical air photograph (541/A/443, 3319 and 3400, flown 30 July 1948), but by the date of the subsequent sortie (541/A/468, 3099-3100, flown 26 April 1949), the E wing had been removed. The house had been completely demolished, though the 'stables' building survived, by 1954 (F21 540/RAF/1420, 0107-0109, flown 28 September 1954). The latter 'stables' building survived until at least 1960 ((F43 58/RAF/3544, 0137-0138, flown 16 May 1960).
