Archaeology Notes

HU55NW 8005 unlocated

NLO: South Nesting Bay [name centred HU 490 562].

(Classified as wooden steamship, with cargo of empty barels and salt: date of loss cited as 8 August 1922). G S L: this vessel stranded [in] Nesting Bay, and [was] on fire. Beached near Neep. Then what? ON: 132,151.

Registration: Fraserburgh. Built 1912. 88grt. Length: 27m. Beam: 5m.

(Location of loss cited as N60 18.17 W1 5.33).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The location and map sheet assigned to this record are essentially arbitrary. Nesting Bay is presumably to be equated with South Nesting Bay, while location of Neep is not noted as such on the 1999 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map.

The location cited by Whittaker remains unverified.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 26 September 2007.
